Day 8 - Red 'roos, not Uluru, Salt Lake and Uluru at sunset

Today was a coach transfer to Ayers Rock Resort - where we will see probably the most famous natural icon in Australia, Uluru. But on the way we encountered...

Some rescued Red Kanagroos - likely orphaned by their mothers being hit by cars, these 'roos are raised on a camel farm and then released to the wild.

Karen's a sucker for anything small and cute...
We fed them with grass - their fur was so soft!

Awwww... kewt!
Look! It's Uluru!! Nope, it's Mount Connor... still an impressive sight though.

Behold my manly pose in front of this salt lake, once used by Donald Campbell for speed trials - the salt lake, not the pose!

Salt lake and lesser photographed Nick...
Near to Uluru are the Olgas - multiple lumps of rock which were pretty amazing.

Karen meets The Olgas
We brought drinks and snacks and stood and watched the sun go down and Uluru change colour... not actually as spectacular as you would expect, but still amazing to be here. The Prosecco we bought was pretty ghastly, though it seemed to improve the further down the bottle we got!

World famous icon... and Uluru. Bubbles darling!

  1. You cheapskates, when my friend Paddy was there, they had candle lit dinner. It was an optional extra with full works, ie tables with linen cloths, china tableware and glasses. Dinner included chilled champers, think it cost a fortune, but apparently worth it. You could suggest to Brian!!
